Last Officer's Meeting

Tuesday May 10th, 2005 is our last officers meeting for the equestrian. Tonight's topic will be the end of the year BBQ. Basically figuring out who will bring what supplies and create awards for outstanding members. Its been a great year working with these dedicated women. Best of luck and thank you for a wonderful year.

Nationals Results

Nationals was a success for the University of Delaware.
Theresa Delucca placed 9th overall in individual novice over fences. Ryan Pepper placed 9th overall in western horsemanship.
Congratulations girls, the team is so proud of your accomplishments!

Meeting Cancelled

Just a reminder this weeks meeting (May 5th) has been cancelled. Our last meeting will resume on May 12th. The officers and I would like to wish Ryan Pepper and Theresa Delucca the best of luck at Nationals. Theresa will be competing May 5th and Ryan May 8th. Both individuals made it on thier own to Nationals. Ryan and Theresa placed in the top two at Zones. I will post the results after the final competition.

Cancelled

Ag day was cancelled. After the horrible weather prediction the officers and I decided it was unsafe to have small children on ponies. All other events were moved inside so our team would have recieved little traffic to our event. Our Vice President did an amazing job fundraising in the fall so the team should still be in great shape for next year.

This saturday the Equestrian Team hosts pony rides at the University of Delaware's Ag Day. Children from all over the area come to ride these ponies. This year children will also be able to get their picture taken with the pony they rode. These pictures will then be printed out and placed in a horse shoe frame. Its our best fundraiser of the year.

Final Activities

Last night we handed over our binders to the new officers. However we still have a few activities in the works.

Club Sports Olympics- will be May 19th 1-4pm
**In this event we will compete individually against all other club sports and tally the points as a team.
Equestrian BBQ- will be May 19th 5-x
**This will be a farewell to seniors and to celebrate a wonderful year
Preakness- May 21st 8-x
**GET EXCITED!!!! We are going to have two buses this year. It will cost $65 per ticket and anyone is more then welcomed to join us.

Its almost a new year and a new start. The election was extremely close but our team worked hard together and elected a great new board of respresentatives.

Competition

Almost Over

Its hard to imagine that my last year on the equestrian team is almost over. Last week we held officer nominations and this coming Thursday we will hold elections. So although I will carry out the remainder of the year as president, the new president will be elected next week. Its a bittersweet moment.

Last night was our semi-formal at Cavanaughs in Wilmington. It was a HUGE success. Over 75 members with their dates attended and danced the night away. Friends also came along to add to the fun.

Last horse show

My four years at college are finally coming to an end. This past weekend Saturday, March 19, the University of Delaware hosted the last show of the season. We competed at C-Line stables in Odessa, DE. Speaking as a senior we went out with a *BANG*. The University of Delaware was champions of the show, beating Delaware Valley College by an outstanding number of points. Each rider was flawless this weekend and I am so proud to be part of such an amazing team.

Last Thursday was a very eventful meeting. We began as usual then Dr. Marshall a horse veterinarian and college professor came to speak to our team. He discussed horse related myths about the conformation of a horse. Post discussion we voted on English and Western captains. The votes were extremely close but we able to elect our new captains. Congratulations to Lauren Twist for being our new Western captain, and to Tabitha McNally and Brittnay Hitz our new English captains. Next year is going to being with great leaders.

Equestrian Team Overview

Meetings: Every Thursday evening at 5:35 in Perkins, Rodney Room

Coach: Bryan Bradley of Granite Springs Stable

Shows:

Member participation is not required
IHSA regulated
8-10 shows per academic year plus regionals, zones, nationals and invitational according to member qualification

Membership:

Approximately 85 club members
Approximately 50 showing member

Time Commitment:

Required weekly meeting (Average 30 mins)
Required mandatory events (1-2 UD hosted shows, and 1 fundraiser per semester)
Optional weekly lessons (1 hour plus travel time)
Optional shows (Weekends 5am-5pm average)
Other activities (Subject to involvement)

Cost:

Ranging from $30-$400 per semester (Depending on involvement)
Non-Showing dues: $60 per year
Showing dues: $100 per year

Equipment:

All tack is provided
Show clothing may be borrowed from others, however, it is suggested that you supply your own helmet and boots.

Horses: Most members do not own their own horse

experience: None required. Showing is available at all levels and beginners are strongly encouraged.
